The Importance of Squirrels for Mental Health in a Pandemic (yes, we’re all going nuts)

When Your Best Friend in Quarantine is a Squirrel…. great article by Ellen Gamerman. She and Lucia had a long discussion on what squirrels mean to people living in isolation in cities and suburbs. Lucia also tasted my own ‘squirrel-proofed’ bird seed for her – yow, it was also definitely cayenne-hot.

Laurie Kort is baffled by people who don’t want squirrels breaking into their birdfeeders. Not only does she welcome the critters in her backyard, she gives them the same mac and cheese she feeds her grandchildren.

“I don’t want to be the squirrel lady,’” she said, “but it’s hard not to fall in love with them.”
